Geologist Pete Palmer talks about a career that has included 16 years of work for the U.S. Geological Survey, 14 years of teaching at SUNY-Stonybrook, 12 years work on a 30-volume series of books about the geology of North America, and 15 years of geological research from a home laboratory. He now engages in a wide range of intellectual and community activities, notably talks he gives about environmental sustainability and geology field trips that he has led for twenty years to show local features that demonstrate the age of the earth. The interview ends with a discussion and display of trilobites, which have been a focus of his research.
